After our hectic weekend with the 25th Annual Tuna Tournament a few of our captains decided to take a day to rest. Regardless of only a few boats fishing the chunk bite for tuna was great today! Aboard the “Jade II” Captain Ed Kauffman returned to the dock with 22 yellow fin tuna, 17 fish in the stringer weighed a total of 783 pounds. Captain Wade Lober on the “Why Not” had a similar day returning with 9 yellow fin for a total stringer weight of 412 pounds. A little further inshore Captain Mark Sampson on the “Fish Finder” had a great deal of luck today releasing sharks. He released a variety of species including a blacktip, an Atlantic sharp now, a smooth hammerhead, and 5 spinner sharks. Bay fishing has slowed just a bit today, we did not see as many keeper flounder (18″>) but there were good numbers of throwbacks. On the bay private charter the “Get Sum” Captain Nick Clemente reported high numbers of throwbacks and a keeper between his trips today. Captain Mikey Walsh on the “Bay Bee” also reported high numbers of throwbacks today.
